The Printable French Language Game That Immerses You in the Language - 6 to 24 Players

Looking for the English Language version? This game is in French. If you are looking for the English Winter Estate Heist, you can find it here.

You want to practise your French; really practise it. Not with flashcards or grammar drills, but by actually using it under pressure, with other people, in a context that makes you forget you're learning at all.

The Winter Estate Heist is a printable murder murder mystery meets escape game written entirely in French, designed for adult learners, French conversation groups, language classes, and anyone who wants to put their French to the test in a genuinely engaging way. Six original puzzles. One vault code. One hour of immersive French.

No translation provided. No English safety net. Just French - the way real immersion works.

The Scenario

Winter Estate, 24 December 1961. A diamond vanished from a locked vault during a black-tie dinner. A guest disappeared into the night. The case was closed within a week; no arrests, no answers, no diamond. The missing guest was presumed dead.

Over sixty years later, a collection of documents - together with a locked vault - has been discovered behind a wall panel in the east gallery of the estate. Letters, ledgers, inventories, telegrams - all in French, all unexamined. Your teams have been called in to reopen the case. Six puzzles. One vault code. One hour.

Only one team can crack it first.

Why It Works for French Learners

Traditional language learning asks you to study French. This asks you to think in French - to read, decode, discuss, and problem-solve entirely in the language. The competitive format means players are too focused on winning to worry about making mistakes. That's exactly when language acquisition happens fastest.

  • Authentic written French: letters, telegrams, ledgers, and inventory documents - real vocabulary, real context
  • Multi-team format: one printed kit per team of 3–6 - ideal for language classes, conversation groups, and French society events
  • Recommended level: B1–B2 (intermediate to upper-intermediate)- challenging but accessible with group discussion
  • No prep for the organiser: print, divide into teams, and let the game run itself
  • Printable winner's certificate: in French - a keepsake that doubles as a conversation piece

Perfect For

  • Adult French language classes and evening courses
  • French conversation groups and language exchange events
  • University French societies and language department events
  • Alliance Française chapters and cultural associations
  • Corporate French language training sessions
  • Mixed French/English-speaking friend groups and families
  • Anyone who wants a printable French learning activity for adults that actually feels like a night out

The Six Puzzles

Six original puzzles, each yielding a number with one or two digits. Together they form the six-part vault code. Teams can tackle them in any order; no linear progression, no bottlenecks. A sophisticated mix of logic, visual deduction, code-breaking and lateral thinking, written entirely in French and designed for adult groups.

Ideal for: French language classes, adult learners (B1–B2), conversation groups, language society events, French/English mixed groups, corporate language training.
Players: 6 to 24 (one printed kit per team of 3–6).
Duration: 45–75 minutes.
Difficulty: Intermediate French - B1 minimum recommended, best enjoyed at B1–B2 level.
Language: Entirely in French. No English translation included.
Format: Instant PDF download - print at home or at a print shop (A4 or US Letter).
